# About Seven Gables Inn

Seven Gables Inn, 26 N. Meramec Ave., Clayton, MO 63105. HTML version: https://sevengablesinn.com/about

Tucked along a tree-lined street in the heart of downtown Clayton, Seven Gables Inn feels like a European country house. Built in 1926 and inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The House of the Seven Gables, the inn is a Tudor Revival landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Steep gables, a stately chimney, decorative half-timbering and narrow windows recall the manor houses of old England.

Inside, a careful restoration preserved the inn’s character while adding modern comfort. Original wood beams, rich hardwood floors and stately wall coverings create rooms that feel collected over generations. What sets Seven Gables apart is its intimacy: warm, personal service, Seven bistro and bar, and a hidden courtyard, with Clayton’s boutiques, galleries and dining just beyond the door. Here, history is lived, not simply displayed.

## A Charming Inn

Modeled on the manor houses of old England, Seven Gables Inn has been a Clayton landmark since 1926. Our courtyard is where memories are made: a drink with a friend, a wedding under the trees or simply a good book in the shade. With more than 3,600 square feet of event space for meetings, weddings and celebrations, it is no wonder the inn is considered one of the best hotels in the Saint Louis area.

Today, Seven Gables Inn welcomes guests to 32 individually designed rooms and suites, each with its own personality, blending Old World charm with modern luxury. Downstairs, Seven, our American bistro and bar, greets you with a warm atmosphere, fine spirits, wines and a selection of beers to pair with your meal.

## Old Soul, Modern Comfort

The bones are from 1926; the comforts are thoroughly today. Every room has complimentary Wi-Fi, a large flat-screen TV, a Toto Washlet, air conditioning, a steamer, a hairdryer and plush robes (slippers on request), and many rooms add a mini refrigerator and an in-mirror TV in the bath.

Our hardwood floors live in a building from 1926, so yes, they creak a little. A gentle squeak underfoot is part of the charm of a historic inn, and most guests come to love it. Behind the old walls, efficient heating and cooling, low-flow Toto Washlets, reclaimed wood, LED lighting and low-VOC paints let the inn care for the planet while it takes care of you.
